Streamed online event featuring "Swingposium"

Saturday, January 30, 2021 - 3:00pm

This multi-faceted streamed evening event will include a video of the play “Swingposium on the Road,” featuring San Jose Taiko and the music of the Cal Poly Humboldt Jazz Orchestra. The play, which was presented live at Bayside Community Hall in Jan. and Feb. 2020, centers on the big bands that flourished in Japanese American concentration camps, as seen through the eyes of teenage Japanese Americans imprisoned there.

A discussion following the video of “Swingposium on the Road” will be led by Humboldt professors Christina Hsu Accomando and Michihiro C. Sugata. Also on the program will be Gary Ronne of Humboldt Taiko, in performance with the group (video).

Presented by Humboldt Asian and Pacific Islander Alliance in Solidarity (HAPIA) in collaboration with the Cal Poly Humboldt Dept. of Critical Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
