Humboldt Senior Resource Center Adapts Its Services in the Time of COVID-19

On March 13 the Humboldt Senior Resource Center (HSRC) programs and service delivery changed in response to the pandemic. Learn how the programs have adapted to the shelter-in-place orders while continuing to meet the needs and maintain the health of the population they serve and how plans for the future are evolving as the county reopens. Get an update on what is known with regards to Governor Newsom’s  proposed cuts to senior services and the possible effects on the agency and the community the HSRC serves.

Barbara Walser has been the director of the HSRC Nutrition and Activities programs for over eight years and has worked in the field of senior services over 23 years. She oversees the Senior Nutrition Program (senior dining centers and home delivered meals) as well as the Activities Program. Before coming to HSRC she was the director of a local senior housing project.

Barbara LaHaie is the director of the Redwood Coast PACE program. She has been in the health and human services field for over 30 years. Prior to coming to PACE she oversaw the operations of the public health, mental health and social services branches of Humboldt County.

Andrea Bruhnke is the director of HSRC Adult Day Health & Alzheimer’s services. She has been with HSRC for two years, and has worked in senior services for seven years in a variety of positions including the health services coordinator for a local assisted living facility. Andrea researched exercise-based fall prevention interventions for older adults during her kinesiology master’s program at Cal Poly Humboldt.
