Brown Bag Lunch Online Presentation with Andrew Whitney, Humboldt County Planning & Building Dept.: An overview of the existing housing conditions in Humboldt County and the plan for the future.

Explore the existing housing conditions in Humboldt County, providing context on jurisdictional planning efforts, local agency, developer, and non-profit organization involvement. Recent changes to California State housing law will be discussed. With this context established, the presentation will detail current efforts to increase the number of housing units available in Humboldt County, and the projects and programs to increase the quality and availability of housing in the county. The presentation will conclude with a look at demographic trends in the Humboldt County and housing’s role in environmental sustainability.

Andrew Whitney is the program coordinator for Housing & Grants, Humboldt County Planning & Building Dept. Andrew has lived in Humboldt County since 1999. He has over 15 years of experience working on housing related projects and programs and has worked for Humboldt County, the City of Eureka, and the City of Arcata.

The Humboldt County Planning and Building Department is responsible for protecting public health, safety, and welfare. The department achieves this through building permit review and inspections consistent with California model codes as well as planning and development review and approval consistent with the county's General Plan. The department also provides administrative and development assistance services.
