‌Update on Remote Instruction and Work, and Campus Operations

Campus will now be closed through Sunday, April 28, and work and instruction continue to be remote. The University is making various contingency plans, including possibly keeping campus closed beyond that. Updates about remote learning and working, paychecks, housing and dining, and health and counseling services at humboldt.edu/emergency.

Access Humboldt is the local community media and broadband access organization serving Humboldt County and adjacent Tribal lands. Since conducting an Information Ecosystem Assessment in 2019, and adapting to virtual production and related pandemic changes in 2020, Access Humboldt is looking to find opportunities for restorative, sustainable local media to meet local needs in public health and safety, education, economic and community development, culture and arts, and civic engagement. Projects like its Redwoods Listening Post look very promising, but the future is uncertain.

Access Humboldt is a non-profit, community media, and broadband access organization serving the residents and local jurisdictions of Humboldt County on the North Coast of California, managing resources that include cable access TV channels; KZZH FM 96.7 community radio; an online collection of local content on Internet Archive; a wide area broadband network with dedicated optic fiber connections to 20 locations serving local jurisdictions and community anchor institutions; broadband access wireless networks; a Community Media Center with studio and other production equipment and training on the Eureka High School campus; and ongoing operational support for public, educational and governmental access media services.

Digital ecologist Sean Taketa McLaughlin serves as executive director of Access Humboldt, where he advocates for public policies that support universal access to open media.
