A Message to the Campus Community

May 1, 2024 - 1:47 p.m.

Dear Students and Colleagues,

As we all come to terms with the recent events on campus, it is important to recognize the emotional impact they have taken on us, individually and collectively. We want to acknowledge that this has been an extremely challenging week for Cal Poly Humboldt. We are hurting within our campus community and beyond, and we have much work in front of us to reset, rebuild, and heal. This will take time. We will do this together.

Celebrating 82 Years & Planning Ahead

Janette Heartwood and her dog

Brown Bag Lunch Online with Janette Heartwood, Elder

Tuesday, July 7, 2020 - 12:00pm

To celebrate her 82nd birthday, Janette Heartwood will share the numerous preparations she has made for the final segment of her life on Earth. Janette has no family (in the traditional sense) but her solutions may offer insights for all of us, especially those who have been reluctant to imagine how their futures will unfold.

Janette Heartwood was elected a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects prior to emigrating to the United States in 1962. She is a licensed California contractor and Real Estate Broker. Janette honed her entrepreneurial skills by creating businesses that withstood volatile markets. Janette retired to Humboldt County to continue her love of hiking. When College of the Redwoods lost funding for their Senior Walking Program, Janette volunteered to keep the group active. She served on the City of Arcata Design Review Commission and contributed to Transition Humboldt.
