Brown Bag Lunch Online Presentation with Lori Dengler, Humboldt Geology Professor Emeritus
Monday, March 29, 2021 - 12:00pm
Most earthquakes are caused by natural forces. A small subset is caused by human activity. This talk gives an overview of human-induced seismicity, including injection of fluids, filling of reservoirs, and mining activities. Examples include the Geysers Geothermal Area, disposal of well drilling fluids, and the filling of Lake Oroville.
The Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group is a regional organization of local, state and federal agencies; preparedness organizations; and individuals working to develop and coordinate preparedness programs to create an earthquake and tsunami-resilient North Coast.
Lori Dengler is an emeritus professor of geology at Cal Poly Humboldt. She has expertise in earthquakes, tsunamis and hazard mitigation. Since retiring from teaching, Lori continues to provide scientific advice to the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group, engage in earthquake and tsunami outreach projects with California Office of Emergency Services, and writes the "Not My Fault" column that appears in the Eureka Times-Standard most Sundays.
