Brown Bag Lunch Online Presentation with Cutcha Risling Baldy, Humboldt Dept. of Native American Studies Assistant professor/Department Chair

Tribes in Humboldt County have long been at the forefront of exercising sovereignty and maintaining their cultural, spiritual, and treaty rights. This presentation will provide a historical overview of two key Supreme Court Cases featuring local tribes, and how this shaped current tribal law and policy throughout the U.S.
Cutcha Risling Baldy (Hupa, Yurok, Karuk) is an associate professor and department chair of Native American Studies at Cal Poly Humboldt. Her research is focused on Indigenous feminisms, California Indians, and decolonization. She is the author of We Are Dancing for You: Native Feminisms and the Revitalization of Women's Coming-of-Age Ceremonies (2018). She co-founded the Native Women's Collective, a nonprofit organization that supports the continued revitalization of Native American arts and culture.
