‌Updates for Campus Hard Closure during Finals Week

Dear Students and Colleagues,

The University continues the hard closure of campus through May 12. Access to campus is restricted, and individuals are not permitted to enter or be on campus without prior authorization. Updated information is available about resources available during finals week. 

The University will hold Commencement ceremonies at three off-campus locations on Saturday, May 11, 2024. They will take place concurrently in the Sapphire Palace at the Blue Lake Casino, the Eureka Theater, and the Eureka High School Auditorium. Each of the venues has the capacity to accommodate all of the registered graduates’ anticipated guests.

Institutional Racism & the Role That Individuals Play

Sharrone will discuss the unusual times we are experiencing with institutional racism being highlighted during a pandemic, and the role that individuals have played, and are being called upon to play, to finally address these systemic and societal issues.

Sharrone Blanck has worked in early intervention for 15 years and currently works at HCOE as a special day class infant teacher. She works with 1 1/2 to 3-year old children with autism or speech and language impairments. She works in both the classroom and in parent education. Sharrone’s family moved here from Reno, Nevada five years ago. While in Reno, her husband -- who is both white and Jewish -- served as the Legal Redress Chair for their local NAACP. Jeff Blanck also served as the first white president of the NAACP’s Reno-Sparks chapter. Sharrone and her family joined our Humboldt County community and have been Eureka NAACP members for the past five years. She and her husband have two black sons, ages 20 and 22, and they are the reason both mother and father have chosen to be active members in NAACP. Sharrone Blanck is now serving our community as the Eureka NAACP president.
