This class will address how we might ethically provide care for the dying. What are the underlying principles and values for providing such care? What does it mean to really care for those who are dying? How are our actions an extension of this care? Register by July 11.

Mary Bockover

Mary Bockover, Ph.D., UC Santa Barbara, is a philosophy professor at Cal Poly Humboldt, and has taught American Philosophy, Philosophy of Death, Philosophy of Mind, and Philosophy in Literature. She created and ran the Humboldt Philosophy Forum, a university / community forum that examines pressing contemporary topics and that aims to educate in a way that is reflective, and is critical as well constructive. She also serves as a national/international biomedical ethics consultant. Her research and writing is in the areas of comparative philosophy, ancient Chinese philosophy, ethics, gender and identity theory, and philosophical psychology. She has published book reviews, given keynote and other invited talks, and has presented at numerous conferences around the world and the U.S. Mary's hobbies include having fun with her family and friends, hiking, walking, camping (and occasionally backpacking), poetry, pottery, amateur photography, travel, and motorcycling.
