Tell us about yourself.
I was born and raised in Sacramento, California, where I currently reside. I enjoy being outdoors, refurnishing furniture, and spending time with my family. Over the years, I had many different plans for my future, but none panned out. During that time, my employment experiences were spent in different avenues of customer service and hospitality, and I realized that is what I enjoy most. As the fourth and final sibling in my family to attend and earn degrees at Cal Poly Humboldt, I am looking forward to the foundation the program has provided me to be successful in the future.
What motivated you to enroll in the Leadership Studies program and how has this program helped you in your career?
The motivation behind enrolling in the Leadership Studies program was the courses that were offered. Each course had a distinct relation to past experiences. In addition, each course has been such a great resource, method of support, and learning experience during my current employment position in academia. As a leader in administration and a student, I have had the opportunity to connect each real-life experience back to the teaching within each course and understand the perspective and view as a student. The program was the right choice, at the right time.
How have you grown as a leader since starting this program?
Once in the program, the support that has been available and provided by faculty and staff is unmeasurable. This support is contagious and has assisted with my own personal growth as something to strive for. This program has shown me that everyone has a different perspective and having compassion and empathy for others’ positions is key to being a successful leader.
What are your goals after completing your bachelor’s degree?
The experiences and learning from the program will be there to guide me onto my next chapter, which is to be an advocate and trustworthy leader by implementing stable, healthy, and positive workplace cultures.
