Can We Talk? Bringing Civil Discourse into Everyday Life

24093: Registration closed

With Sharon Ferrett, Author & Educator

This course is designed to foster civil discourse and help you learn to appreciate and practice civility and kindness. Together we will learn how to build community, define civil discourse, and address topics that are difficult to discuss. Using small group work and interactive exercises, you can learn effective communication skills for how to listen -- so people will feel free to speak -- and how to talk so people will want to listen. You will also learn effective communication skills for civil discourse on topics such as politics, religion, gender, race and culture. This course will look at ways to change our perception and see reframe initial reactions. Three questions will help guide us before we speak:

  • Is it true?
  • Is it kind?
  • Does it need to be said? If so, how best to say it in a civil manner.

Register by April 1.

Video will be available for this class.

Thurs. April 4 • 1-3 p.m.
