Throughout the Americas, people escaped enslavement by disappearing into the wild lands beyond plantations and towns. This course will mention South America and the Caribbean, but focus mainly on the under-recognized, free, autonomous communities maintained throughout the Southern United States before the Civil War.

Rev. Molly Cate

Rev. Molly Cate is principal speaker and often soloist for Unity Church of the Redwoods in Eureka. She has a master’s degree in consciousness studies from Holmes Institute School of Consciousness Studies in Santa Rosa, one in sociology from the University of California, Davis, and several certificates in cross-cultural competence. She is passionate about science and bridging the barriers between people holding clashing belief systems.
