The Golden Rule and other ideas about the dignity of humanity sprang forth independently throughout Asia and parts of Europe between 600 BCE and 200 BCE. The heart-broken, post-WWII philosopher Karl Jaspers called this the Axial Age. From Confucius and Lao Tse to the Upanishads and the Buddha; from the Hebrew prophets to Homer, Plato, and the rise of sacred Greek drama, we will explore Jaspers' timeline and find out why his heart was so broken. Rev. Molly Cate
Rev. Molly Cate is a humanitarian educator passionate about history, science, and bridging the barriers between people holding clashing belief systems. She is the spiritual leader and often soloist for Unity of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. She has a master’s degree in consciousness studies from Holmes Institute in Santa Rosa, one in sociology from the University of California, Davis, and several certificates in cross-cultural competence.
