Next program to be announced
We are not offering this course until we can again meet in person. We hope this will be in the fall of 2021 or during the winter break. Information will be posted here as soon as we can schedule it.
In the meantime, we are aware of two other courses scheduled for 2021:
- Our friend Uta Berger will hold her summer school in agent-based modeling at the Dresden University of Technology, Germany.
- A four-week online course from Wageningen University (the Netherlands) includes a tutorial on agent-based modeling and modeling experience.
The following describes our summer 2020 course.
This intensive program is intended to provide participants with resources and an environment for rapid progress designing, implementing, and learning from agent-based (individual-based) models. The program will combine lectures, exercises, and independent work guided by two leading experts in agent-based modeling. While benefitting from the 20 previous short courses presented by its instructors, this program will be unique in its focus on the participants’ own modeling projects.
The program is intended primarily for researchers (faculty, graduate students, professionals) who are in the early phases of a modeling project or who seek help getting an existing project on track for completion. The program will also be open to participants whose main interest is learning about agent-based modeling in general, especially in preparation for teaching their own modeling courses; such participants will be expected to develop their own simple project during the course.
The instructors, Volker Grimm and Steve Railsback, are most familiar with ecological modeling but welcome participants from other fields. To provide ample personal attention, the program is limited to 15 participants.
